since I remember myself.
The first time I tried to do my own baking ended up with sweet scrambled eggs, dough thrown into the garbage can and a lot of tears. I was about seven years old. Mom came home after a long day at work – I had wanted to surprise her with a tray of sweet delicious buns…

My second attempt was according to a recipe from Moly Bar-David’s book, the only cookbook my mother had. It said that you need to scramble the eggs, but what does scrambling mean?
I read again, mortified, and like last time – threw it into the garbage can.
My father laughed out loud and I angrily left the kitchen – but not for long.

 

Mom used to bake a yeast cake or apple pie every Friday. These were the smells of my childhood. I so much wanted to learn how to bake them.

 

Years passed, and I tried my luck once more. This time there were successes!
After the army and a trip to the East in 1987, I opened a cake stand in the “Give and Take” market along with two friends, in Tel Aviv. Ours was the only such stand in the market, and the line got longer and longer.

 

 

But life had different plans for me. For years I worked as a News Director for TV networks.
I was hooked to electronic news, my beeper and a mobile phone 24/7. baba-101x300

In 2009 I decided that that’s it, no more. It’s time to fulfill my great passion: The Kitchen.

 

I went to Paris, graduated in Patisserie Studies at Bellouet Conseil, and worked at Carette Patisserie.
Spending time in Paris, I got to know the best patisseries and cakes and the most exciting restaurants.

I came back to Israel and opened my own home-style patisserie. Today, alongside the eclairs, sabrinas and tarts you can smell the yeast cakes and apple pies. The scents of my childhood. Pastries and Wonders.

 

P.S. Moly Bar-David’s book still stands on my shelf.

but not one has been lost!
From time to time I still read its yellow pages and think back on my first attempts.
